UP FROM THE GRAVE HE AROSE - Pastor (Dr) E. O. Abina

1. “Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 

2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 

4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 

5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee” (Lk.24:1-6 NKJV).

On one Sunday of the year, Christians from all walks of life throughout the world celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. 

They call it Easter Sunday but it should be better called “Resurrection Sunday”. I guess it comes in either in the month of March or April of every year. The event was, and is still the mother of miracles- it is the miracle of miracles, it proved to the world that Jesus is what He claimed He is… the Son of the Living God, the very God in the very God, the Resurrection and life (Jn.11:25). He conquered death, the most dreadful enemy of mankind. Before He was crucified, He repeatedly told His disciples He would die and rise the third day. It appeared they did not believe what He said; even when He rose from the dead, they still doubted at first (Mk.16:11) because it was a strange event. 

The women who went to the tomb on the third day went there to anoint a dead Savior (Lk.24:1) but to their amazement they found that the heavy stone that sealed the tomb had been rolled away. 

When the angel that was watching saw that they were looking for the dead Savior in the grave, He told them emphatically “He is not here, but He is risen! Remember how He spoke with you when He was still in Galilee, saying, “The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again” verses 6,7. 

The resurrection of Jesus Christ rated Him above any religious leader who came before Him and after Him. It is the proof of His supremacy over and above everyone of them. 

His resurrection guarantees the resurrection to eternal life for all who believe in Him and living for Him. 

There is no other means it is only in the Resurrected Jesus. The post-resurrection appearances of Jesus proved beyond every reasonable doubt that He really rose from the dead. 

If when He rose from the dead He went to heaven immediately and nobody saw Him, that would have created a lot of doubt in many people most especially Bible critics. 

But He stayed on earth for forty days after His resurrection before He ascended to heaven. Read (Acts 1:3)

To all Christians and believers of other faiths I declare to you that Jesus died and rose again with proven evidence that abounds. Kindly find below the list of His post-resurrection appearances:

(a) He appeared to Mary Magdalene (Mk.16:9)
(b) He appeared to two of His disciples on Emmaus road (Lk. 24:13-33)
(c) He appeared to the eleven disciples (Lk.24:36)
(d) He appeared to ten disciples Thomas being absent (Jn.20:19)
(e) He appeared to Simon Peter (ICor.15:5)
(f) He appeared to His disciples at the Sea of Tiberias (Jn.21:1)
(g) He appeared to James (ICor.15:7)
(h) He appeared to five hundred brethren (1Cor.15:6)
(i) His disciples saw Him at the time of the ascension (Lk.24:50)

He appeared to Saul of Tarsus at his conversion (Acts 9:5, 1Cor.15:8)

Finally He is coming back again, (Acts 1:9-11)

The above is more than enough evidence and proof that the Lord Jesus actually rose from the dead. He fought and won the battle that any human being has ever won.

For those that are yet to believe Jesus as their Savior and Lord, I advise you to come to Jesus today and make no delay because there is no other way to heaven and eternal life. Only Jesus is the way, delay is dangerous. Today is the day of your salvation. 

To all Christians, the message of the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Savior is, ‘Go and tell those who have not believed and you will be a profitable servant’. Take it seriously and you will be blessed.

Prayer Points

1. Thank God for the resurrection of Christ that guaranteed yours.
2. Pray that you will not miss the first resurrection (Rev.20:6)
3. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you spread the good news of the Resurrected Christ.
